James McEachen is a writer, cinematographer and filmmaker with over thirty years of experience in diverse sectors of the film industry.  He received a bachelor’s degree from UCLA’s film school in the early eighties and upon graduation immediately pursued his love of cinematography.  As a director of photography and lighting director he has worked with some of the best-known directors and cinematographers in the film industry.  In the early nineties he worked as both a cinematographer and lighting director for David Fincher as he established his directorial credentials in the commercial and music video markets as well as Lee Lacy, John McTeirnan, Richard Marquand, Bob Giraldi , John Landis, Kinka Usher, Neil Abramson, John Dykstra, Dominic Sena and many others.  As a lighting director he has worked extensively with Darius Khonji, Stephen Ramsey, Rolf Kesterman, Dariusz Wolski, Jen-Yves Escoffier, and Claudio Miranda, to name just a few.

Beyond entertainment, his personal and professional experiences are broad based and diverse. Prior to his contract work for Disney he managed an enterprise level Microsoft Solutions Provider with multiple Fortune 400 clients and dozens of multi-million dollar software development projects.  He has also led self-guided mountaineering expeditions in the Himalaya and Andes, trained African filmmakers for UNESCO in Zimbabwe, has been a contract filmmaker for Disney as part of a four-billion dollar portfolio of development projects, and in 2015 made his directorial debut with the feature documentary, "The Leopard in the Land" about the plight of endangered snow leopards in Mongolia.

Recognized for strong creative and leadership skills across many fields and in diverse worldwide locations – from Sub-Saharan Africa and the remote corners of the Himalaya, to the L.A. and London film industries, international technology firms and non-profit boardrooms, Jim is driven by a strong work ethic, a passion for innovation, high adventure and real-world, experience-based story-telling.

Jim has always been our filmmaker of first choice for any work my team at Imagineering requires. His dedication for finish quality is impressive, but these technical skills are all informed and multiplied by a very strong story sense and directorial point of view
